QuitPower Smoking Cessation Services
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Annually, cigarette smoking costs more than $96 billion in health care expenditures and $97 billion in lost productivity. There’s a good chance your employees want to quit—70% of U.S. adult smokers report they want to quit smoking. More than 40% of smokers try quitting each year.
At AllOne Health, we use a multi-pronged approach to smoking cessation to help your smokers kick their habit once and for all. Our program includes:
- Motivational CD
- Workbook with tips on quitting and how to handle urges to smoke
- 8-week supply of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
- Access to a health coach that they can call anytime to discuss a quit date, get motivated, and to talk through the challenges they are facing in their smoking cessation efforts.
Implementing the QuitPower program at your organization is simple. We strongly believe that promotion is crucial to a successful rollout of the program. We can offer recommendations on how to promote the program and provide promotional materials such as posters, flyers and paycheck stuffers that are customized with your company’s logo. We can also discuss alternative smoking cessation methods you’d like to provide, such as ChantixTM. If you’re interested in offering an incentive program to encourage smokers to sign up, we can suggest best practices on this as well.
Once employees know about the program, signing up is easy. All they have to do is call the QuitPower 800 number to register, and they’re on their way to starting their life as a non-smoker. We check in on the participants throughout the program. After a participant registers, one of our smoking cessation-certified health coaches calls the participant for an initial call to talk about topics such as smoking history, how to avoid potential triggers, and how to change habits that are part of their smoking lives (e.g., smoking on the ride home from work, smoking with friends). Participants are encouraged to call into their health coach as often as they need. Our health coaches check in on the participants at the 3, 6 and 12 month points to see how they’re doing and assess their satisfaction with the program. These results are shared with companies so they can see how successful the program is in terms of quit rates and satisfaction rates.
The combination of the motivational CD, workbook, 8-week supply of NRT, and health coaching results in a historical quit rate of almost 40%, which is considerably higher than the quit rate of other smoking cessation programs, which ranges from 10 to 20% (Source: Department of Health and Human Services). And not only do people quit, but they’re happy with the program.
